Senior Academic Leader

- Supervise the research and academic endeavors of faculty members within the department.
- Ensure effective and efficient utilization of human, financial, spatial, and other resources to successfully achieve the educational and research objectives of the department.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to faculty to foster and enhance scholarship and research initiatives.
- Support research activities within the department and promote collaborative efforts with other departments and programs across the university.
- Encourage and facilitate all initiatives aimed at securing research funding.
- Establish appropriate internal controls for the department and implement mechanisms to monitor and ensure compliance.
- Engage in and disseminate research findings while securing external funding for research and/or training initiatives.
- Instruct and mentor graduate students.
- Advocate for a culture of "Service Excellence" throughout the institution.
PhD, MD, or equivalent degree, with eight to ten years of relevant experience, proven familiarity with academic administration in their specialty area, and a comprehensive understanding of an academic setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in health disparities or minority health research.
- Demonstrated experience in graduate education, including mentoring and teaching.
- Thorough understanding of an academic environment, along with the practice of medicine and biomedical research.
- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain collegial relationships with peers, faculty, staff, and students across various disciplines.
- Documented expertise in scholarly inquiry and publications, showcasing the ability to support and sustain intellectual growth within an academic framework that emphasizes securing research funding.
- Visionary leadership with a commitment to the overall success of the department.
- A dedication to developing programmatic initiatives.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and competence in interactions with diverse individuals.
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience in managing multiple programs.
- Robust publication record and research funding, or potential to secure research funding.
Commensurate with experience.
