Position Overview

Role Summary

The Director of Logistics Programs at Galveston College is tasked with overseeing and enhancing a specialized academic program while also delivering instruction as needed. This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality of the educational experience within the classroom setting. Reporting to the Division Director, the Program Director plays a crucial role in shaping institutional policies and practices through active participation in various committees. Responsibilities are carried out throughout the year, focusing on the operational integrity of the academic and vocational programs, which includes curriculum development, student recruitment, and academic advising.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets.
  • Process and submit departmental purchase requests accurately.
  • Collaborate on course scheduling and resolve conflicts with other departments.
  • Support the Division Director in faculty evaluations as necessary.
  • Mentor and supervise adjunct faculty within the department.
  • Conduct evaluations of adjunct faculty in accordance with institutional guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to the final exam schedule and timely submission of grades.
  • Manage textbook requests following established procedures.
  • Work closely with faculty to develop and refine course offerings and curricula.
  • Implement strategies for student recruitment and retention within the program.
  • Engage with prospective students and respond to inquiries effectively.
  • Organize and lead departmental advisory meetings, providing necessary documentation to the Division Director.
  • Participate in program reviews and evaluations to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate reporting of faculty workloads.
  • Oversee the inventory and maintenance of program facilities and equipment.
  • Deliver instruction as assigned and fulfill all responsibilities of a college instructor.
  • Provide academic advising to students as appropriate.
  • Contribute to a safe educational environment by participating in safety drills and training.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to students and staff.
  • Regular on-site attendance is required to foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possession of relevant certifications.
  • An Associate Degree in a related field with five years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's or Master's Degree with three years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred prior teaching experience.
  • Ability to assist students in achieving their educational objectives.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Capacity to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment while maintaining integrity.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to focus on tasks.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills.
  • Capability to deliver effective instruction based on approved curricula.
  • Ability to select and utilize diverse teaching materials and methods to meet student needs.
  • Commitment to achieving retention goals in line with institutional standards.

Work Environment

  • Primarily operates in a climate-controlled setting with minimal health hazards.
  • Requires physical stamina for tasks such as lifting and moving materials.
  • Involves various physical activities including standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to fifty pounds.

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to employment.
