Position: Vehicle Maintenance Specialist
Location: San Antonio, Texas
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The role involves supporting the upkeep and repair of trucks and trailers, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally. Collaborate with fellow mechanics and supervisors to carry out technical and diagnostic repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct basic vehicle maintenance and preventive tasks, including component replacements and minor repairs.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair various vehicle systems such as brakes, steering, lighting, air conditioning, and more.
- Perform facility maintenance as required.
- Utilize shop management systems and electronic tools for effective operations.
- Diagnose minor mechanical and electronic issues, employing diagnostic computers when necessary.
- Identify root causes of minor failures and execute repairs accordingly.
- Engage with drivers to accurately assess and address complaints.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and corporate compliance regulations, including safety and DOT guidelines.
- Complete work orders and documentation promptly and accurately, maintaining high-quality standards.
- Respond to incidents involving inoperable vehicles and facilitate their transport for repairs when appropriate.
- Keep management updated on safety, operational, and equipment-related observations.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including the use of required personal protective equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with 1 to 3 years of experience in mechanics, maintenance, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as mechanic certification, CDL license, or refrigeration license may be necessary.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in working with engines, anti-lock braking systems, transmissions, and diagnostic tools.
- Basic computer literacy is essential.
- Understanding of DOT regulations is required.
- Able to interpret driver inspection reports.
- Capable of assisting other mechanics with complex repairs safely.
- Skilled in operating tools and equipment effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Self-sufficient in performing tasks without constant oversight.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
