POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vehicle Maintenance Specialist II plays a crucial role in supporting the upkeep of company vehicles and equipment. This position involves assisting the maintenance team with the overhaul of minor components, installation of replacements, and conducting both scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  2. Immediately report any safety infractions and rectify unsafe conditions.
  3. Adhere to company safety protocols and comply with relevant state and federal regulations.
  4. May be required to operate a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) not exceeding 26,000 pounds.
  5. Execute preventive maintenance tasks as per established schedules.
  6. Document maintenance activities and track time in accordance with company guidelines.
  7. Refuel vehicles and equipment as necessary and assist with cleaning tasks as needed.
  8. Request necessary parts and supplies in a timely manner.
  9. Ensure service vehicle readiness, including safety equipment, tools, and cleanliness.
  10. Collaborate with fellow technicians on repairs or projects.
  11. Maintain accurate repair order documentation, including descriptions of repairs, parts and fluids utilized, and time spent on repairs.
  12. Conduct monthly inventory checks as required.
  13. Keep the workspace organized and clean.
  14. Perform diagnostic assessments to determine appropriate repair actions.
  15. Participate in training sessions for ongoing professional development.
  16. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of one year of experience in preventative maintenance or mechanical roles, or a technical degree with demonstrated knowledge of maintenance on class 8 vehicles.
  • Possession of personal tools is required.
  • Familiarity with workshop equipment and safety protocols.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) brake certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Basic automotive knowledge is essential.
  • Understanding of oil sampling theory and practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude is necessary.
  • Proven ability to maintain and repair equipment effectively.
  • Capability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines accurately.
  • Willingness to learn basic computer skills for documenting daily tasks and tracking repairs.
  • Attention to detail and alertness to ensure safety are critical.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Class B commercial driver's license is preferred.
  • Demonstrated safe driving record over the past five years, with no serious accidents or traffic violations.
  • Formal training in preventive maintenance operations is advantageous.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or the ability to obtain it is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid Class C driver's license.
  • Safe driving record for the past three years.
  • Current State Inspector License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
