About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Assistant to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects, documents, and reports vital signs, such as blood pressure, heights, and weights.
  • Completes screening questions and documents all items into the medical record.
  • Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing.
  • Holds, positions patients, and assists with procedures.
  • Preps all materials and supplies as needed.
  • Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism, and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate.
  • Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit.
  • Acts as a preceptor for the orientation and training of other PCA staff.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Active State Tested Nursing Assistant or one year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past three years.
  • Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program.
  • Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills.
  • Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age-appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.
  • Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.
Working Conditions

The Patient Care Assistant will work in a fast-paced clinical environment and will be required to stand, walk, and move frequently. The position may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity.
