Job Summary

Burns & McDonnell is a leading engineering and construction company seeking a highly skilled Accounting Analyst to join our team. As a critical member of our Finance 360 rotational team, you will play a key role in ensuring Project Teams receive exceptional service from accounting across all of our functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a working knowledge of our Accounting/Finance process system workflows to provide expert support to Project Teams.
  • Understand intercompany and client billing process workflows, including the importance of timely and accurate billing documentation and its impact on cash management.
  • Utilize Data Analytics capabilities in Accounting/Finance to equip Project Teams with the information needed to manage projects effectively.
  • Participate in the formal and informal training of Project Team members on Accounting/Finance processes and systems.
  • Apply wide-ranging Accounting/Finance knowledge to support special projects focused on innovation and process improvement.
  • Analyze and interpret contracts to determine proper invoicing requirements and formats for contracts with complex and/or unique requirements.
  • Recommend and implement billing solutions using current technology to maximize the efficiency and accuracy of existing systems and processes.
  • Manage unbilled work in progress and project status billing process for designated Global Practice or Regional Office.
  • Coordinate with the project team and billing support staff to ensure smooth execution of assigned tasks.
  • Develop process documentation for all client-specific invoicing requirements.
  • Audit projects with complicated invoicing requirements.
  • Support Enterprise Account Management teams on Accounting/Finance needs to deliver best-in-class service to Burns & McDonnell clients.
  • Assist Contract Analyst team on client-initiated audits on invoicing.
  • Support Contract Analyst and Financial Reporting teams on 4th quarter and business planning requests from Business Leadership.
  • Aid and review Project Team's annual AP Accrual estimates to ensure accuracy and adherence to accounting guidelines.
  • Foster relationships with Project Teams and demonstrate a willingness to learn about the Burns & McDonnell project lifecycle.
  • Support Miscellaneous Project Reviews.
  • Engage regularly with assigned mentor as part of the Accounting Analyst professional development program.
  • Display first-rate customer service skills, maintain a positive attitude, and be willing to offer a helping hand to other team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is required.
  • Basic knowledge in Accounting/GAAP is necessary.
  • Previous internship experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA is strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community is strongly preferred.
  • Eagerness to constantly learn, be challenged with new tasks, and passionate for continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook is required.
  • Experience working with Pivot Tables, V-Look Ups, and other key Excel functions is preferred.
  • Self-motivator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple day-to-day and ongoing projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to use various software tools, including models, spreadsheets, and databases, to perform analysis and compellingly communicate findings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex requests.
