WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Areas designated for banquet functions, meeting spaces, and service zones.

Job entails working:
  • in fluctuating temperature conditions (including extreme heat or cold).
  • amid varying noise levels.
  • both outdoors and indoors.
  • in proximity to fumes and/or odor hazards.
  • around dust and/or mite hazards.
  • with chemicals.
  • extended hours during peak seasons.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Personnel in Beverage, Kitchen/Stewarding, Banquet, Convention Services, General Cashier, Storeroom/Purchasing, Engineering, Sales, and Catering.

External: Guests and visitors of the banquet and hotel.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:
  1. Must be at least 18 years old to serve alcoholic beverages.
  2. One year of experience as a Bartender or bar back.
  3. Food handling certification.
  4. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly.
  6. Basic arithmetic skills.
  7. Capability to:

8. Familiarity with various drink recipes and beverage service protocols.
9. Obtain TIPS Training certification within 60 days of employment.

Desirable:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent vocational training.
  2. Certification in liquor, wine, and food service training.
  3. CPR certification.
  4. Ability to engage in suggestive selling.
  5. Proficiency in using property management systems and point of sale systems.
  6. Prior training in guest relations.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Essential:

1. Ability to exert physical effort in moving items weighing up to 300 pounds.
2. Capability to perform various physical movements throughout the work environment.
3. Ability to reach above shoulder height.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of and adhere to all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
  2. Understand the proper maintenance and use of equipment, utilizing it only as intended.
  3. Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests, regardless of the time of day or workload. If something is not feasible, provide a courteous explanation or an estimated timeframe for fulfilling requests.
  4. Foster positive guest relations at all times.
  5. Be knowledgeable about all hotel services/features and local attractions to accurately respond to guest inquiries.
  6. Address guest complaints to ensure satisfaction.
  7. Monitor and uphold cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.
  8. Comply with state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated individuals, and drunk driving.
  9. Understand both POS and manual systems.
  10. Secure assigned bank and ensure accuracy of funds. Maintain security of all cash and/or tickets.
  11. Complete opening duties, including transporting bar unit with supplies to the designated function area and setting up in the specified location.
  12. Greet guests and take their drink orders.
  13. Receive cash or tickets prior to serving drinks.
  14. Prepare drink orders according to established recipes.
  15. Provide club service for designated beverages.
  16. Serve drinks to guests.
  17. Collect drink tickets as required.
  18. Open and serve wine/champagne bottles, collecting payment/tickets as necessary.
  19. Clear soiled items from bar tops and tables, placing them in designated areas.
  20. Proactively communicate replenishment needs to ensure no shortages during events.
  21. Clearly announce last call at designated closing times to guests and staff.
  22. Transport bar unit back to designated area post-event and ensure all cash and/or tickets are secured.
  23. Maximize the use of supplies to meet budgeted beverage costs and minimize waste.
  24. Utilize chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and hotel standards.
  25. Complete closing duties, including counting the bank at the end of the shift and securing it.
  26. Follow the established cleaning schedule.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Assist in other bar areas as needed.
