Director, Corporate Development

The Director, Corporate Development will lead transaction activities ranging from identifying, evaluating and driving public and private company acquisitions, joint ventures, asset divestitures and restructurings, minority investments and other critical initiatives. This role will require a balance of leadership and support for all aspects of the transaction evaluation and execution process, including:
- Idea generation and deal sourcing
- Valuation and due diligence
- Negotiation and structuring
- Driving collaboration and approvals
- Integration support
The Director, Corporate Development must exhibit outstanding relationship skills with both external parties and internal teams. They must be able to think creatively and strategically about new opportunities, but also act very tactically to develop and complete transactions.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading and supporting corporate development transactions through all phases of the transaction lifecycle
- Partnering with Workday's industry and product specialists to identify and prioritize strategic gaps, evaluate build/buy/partner options and collaborate on target selection criteria and recommendations
- Developing a deep understanding of the competitive landscape and assisting in establishing relationships with key players in the industry
- Collaborating with primary deal leads and broader cross-functional teams to drive focused diligence processes which vet key assumptions and value drivers
- Conducting detailed analyses including valuation and pro forma case modeling which capture target company trends, deal alignments and integration costs in detail
- Articulating clear rationale and risks associated with proposed transactions through spoken and written communications with deal sponsors, functional leadership and senior executives, taking into account Workday's overall interests
- Developing presentation materials to provide recommendations to the executive team and the board
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional with a strong background in mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy and strategic finance. The ideal candidate will have:
- 10 plus years of proven experience in the M&A technology sector (preferably enterprise software), including banking, consulting or private equity experience
- Proven track record in buy-side M&A, corporate strategy and strategic finance (end to end transaction lifecycle)
- Strong financial modeling and valuation skills
- Hands-on deal leadership experience
- Strong leadership and program management skills with the ability to work and build consensus with multiple cross-functional teams
- Undergraduate degree and MBA or relevant work experience
Workday offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $212,000 USD - $318,000 USD, as well as opportunities for bonus and stock grants. We also offer a flexible work arrangement, with the ability to spend at least half of your time in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners.
