About the Role

The Director of Corporate Development will spearhead transaction activities, including identifying, assessing, and driving acquisitions, joint ventures, asset divestitures, and other strategic initiatives. This role demands a blend of leadership and support throughout the transaction lifecycle, encompassing idea generation, deal sourcing, valuation, due diligence, negotiation, and integration.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional relationship-building skills with both external stakeholders and internal teams. They should be capable of thinking creatively and strategically about new opportunities while also being tactical in executing transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and facilitate corporate development transactions through all stages of the transaction lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with industry and product experts to identify strategic gaps, evaluate build/buy/partner options, and refine target selection criteria.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape and establish relationships with key industry players.
  • Work with primary deal leads and cross-functional teams to conduct thorough diligence processes that validate key assumptions and value drivers.
  • Perform detailed analyses, including valuation and pro forma modeling, to capture trends, alignments, and integration costs.
  • Communicate clear rationales and risks associated with proposed transactions to deal sponsors, functional leadership, and senior executives, considering Workday's overall interests.
  • Prepare presentation materials to provide recommendations to the executive team and board.

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of demonstrated experience in the M&A technology sector, particularly in enterprise software, with a background in banking, consulting, or private equity.
  • Proven success in buy-side M&A, corporate strategy, and strategic finance across the entire transaction lifecycle.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience leading deals.
  • Exceptional leadership and program management skills, with the ability to foster consensus among diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Undergraduate degree and MBA or equivalent professional experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Comfortable working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Positive demeanor and alignment with Workday's culture.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication abilities; capable of conveying compelling messages to senior leadership and external partners.
  • Able to thrive under time constraints.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
