POSITION OVERVIEW

At 10x Genomics, we have a compelling narrative to share, and we are in search of a versatile, innovative, and motivated communicator to assist in conveying this story both internally and externally.

The Director of Corporate Communication is a newly established role tasked with crafting and implementing a cohesive corporate communication strategy that aligns with 10x's mission, strategic objectives, and critical business priorities. This essential position will collaborate with Human Resources, Marketing, and other departments to inform, engage, and motivate employees while enhancing the company's external reputation through proactive media and public relations initiatives.

To excel in this role, you must be a proactive individual who flourishes in a dynamic environment and is enthusiastic about making a significant impact. This hands-on position requires initiative and proficiency in both strategic planning and tactical execution. The ideal candidate will be innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking.

This role presents a unique opportunity to influence the narrative of a pioneering organization committed to developing groundbreaking technologies that promote human health. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communication. Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Development and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to formulate and execute a comprehensive corporate communication strategy, program, and messaging that aligns with and supports the company's mission, strategic goals, and essential business priorities.
  • Continuously evaluate the corporate communication strategy, messaging, channels, and processes to identify and implement innovative ways to effectively communicate the 10x narrative both internally and externally.
  • Work closely with senior leaders and functional teams to create and consistently deliver content tailored for both internal and external audiences across various channels.

Internal Communication Management:

  • Oversee, implement, and enhance established internal communication channels to regularly inform and engage employees, including company-wide communications, newsletters, and monthly meetings.
  • Develop, launch, and maintain new communication channels and processes to consistently engage employees in our mission, priorities, and progress.
  • Design and coordinate employee communication initiatives and campaigns to promote the company's mission, strategy, culture, and key objectives, including significant company milestones and announcements.
  • Support and advise senior leaders on effective communication strategies with employees, based on a solid understanding of organizational dynamics.
  • Provide guidance to the Human Resources team on HR-related communications and initiatives.

External Communication and Public Relations:

  • Devise and implement a proactive public and media relations strategy to enhance 10x's brand and reputation while increasing awareness of the company, our mission, and our innovation pipeline.
  • Create and manage press releases, media pitches, talking points, and other content to compellingly present the company's narrative through earned media, owned channels, social media, and our public website.
  • Collaborate closely with Corporate and Product Marketing to support key brand campaigns, initiatives, and product launches.
  • In partnership with agency collaborators, cultivate and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers to secure favorable coverage and effectively manage company news flow.

Content Development and Management:

  • Stay informed about company developments and industry trends to identify timely, creative, and engaging methods to share news and progress both internally and externally.
  • Produce written materials including communications, presentations, key messages, FAQs, and more.
  • Train and advise company representatives; prepare talking points, briefing documents, and other communication materials for senior leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, English, or a related field is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in communications (internal and/or external), preferably within a global public company. Experience in Life Sciences is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated leadership presence and experience in advising and fostering trusted relationships with executive leaders.
  • Proven track record in media relations, crisis communication, and reputation management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy, capable of tailoring messages for diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high sense of urgency.
  • Strategic thinker passionate about developing and executing integrated communication plans that align with business objectives.
  • Capability to see the broader picture and connect various elements across the organization to maximize impact.
  • Cross-functional experience with the ability to influence and collaborate with multiple stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities effectively.
