About the Team
The Corporate Development team at Workday is pivotal in steering our inorganic growth strategy by executing and integrating strategic acquisition and investment opportunities across our core and emerging market sectors. This team collaborates closely with our executive leadership, product strategists, general managers, and various functional leads to assess, analyze, and implement our global M&A and strategic investment initiatives.
About the Role
The Director of Corporate Development will spearhead transaction activities, which include identifying, evaluating, and facilitating acquisitions of public and private companies, joint ventures, asset divestitures, restructurings, minority investments, and other significant initiatives. This role demands a blend of leadership and support throughout the transaction evaluation and execution phases, encompassing idea generation, deal sourcing, valuation, due diligence, negotiation, structuring, collaboration, approvals, and integration support.
The Director must possess exceptional relationship-building skills with both external stakeholders and internal teams. They should think creatively and strategically about new opportunities while also being adept at executing tactical plans to finalize transactions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate corporate development transactions through all stages of the transaction lifecycle.
- Collaborate with industry and product experts to identify and prioritize strategic gaps, evaluate build/buy/partner options, and work on target selection criteria and recommendations.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape and foster relationships with key industry players.
- Work with primary deal leads and cross-functional teams to drive focused diligence processes that validate key assumptions and value drivers.
- Conduct thorough analyses, including valuation and pro forma case modeling, to capture trends, deal alignments, and integration costs in detail.
- Clearly articulate the rationale and risks associated with proposed transactions through effective spoken and written communications with deal sponsors, functional leadership, and senior executives, considering Workday's overall interests.
- Prepare presentation materials to provide recommendations to the executive team and board.
About You
Basic Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of proven experience in the M&A technology sector, preferably in enterprise software, including banking, consulting, or private equity experience.
- Demonstrated success in buy-side M&A, corporate strategy, and strategic finance across the entire transaction lifecycle.
- Strong financial modeling and valuation expertise.
- Hands-on experience leading deals.
- Exceptional leadership and program management skills, with the ability to build consensus across multiple cross-functional teams.
- Undergraduate degree and MBA or relevant work experience.
Other Qualifications:
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing business needs.
- Comfortable with a collaborative, team-oriented approach to achieving impactful results.
- Positive attitude and alignment with Workday's culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communication abilities; capable of conveying compelling messages to senior leadership and external partners.
- Able to thrive under time constraints.
- Meticulous attention to detail.

Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we are merging the best of both worlds: in-person collaboration and remote work. This approach allows our teams to strengthen connections, foster a strong community, and perform at their best. We recognize that flexibility can take many forms, so rather than mandating a specific number of in-office days each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This enables you to create a flexible schedule that meets your business, team, and personal needs while maximizing the value of our time together.
Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
