SENIOR CREDIT ANALYST - COMMERCIAL BANKING

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

The Senior Credit Analyst plays a pivotal role in the loan management process by delivering expertise in credit assessment and loan underwriting to a Commercial Banking division. This position involves evaluating potential loan transactions and assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers. The analyst is responsible for validating the credit evaluations conducted by Credit Analysts and offering insights and recommendations concerning proposed credit and associated risks. It is essential to ensure that all due diligence and background checks are comprehensive and meticulous prior to submitting the Credit Risk Recommendation ("CRR").

Key Responsibilities
  • Examines loan application requests alongside financial documentation and third-party reports (such as real estate appraisals, environmental assessments, and inventory evaluations); assesses and determines the credit structure and terms; fully underwrites CRR in accordance with Bank standards, policies, and procedures; identifies sources and uses of funds; analyzes industry data, competitive elements, historical performance, projected outcomes, risks, and mitigating factors. Guarantees that the CRR includes a well-supported recommendation or decision, with accurate risk ratings and validated data analytics.
  • Participates in client meetings at the request of the Relationship Manager, CBS Manager, or Credit Manager to facilitate the delivery of credit products and assist in resolving issues. Engages directly with borrowers for additional information and clarification regarding loan requests or financial documentation.
  • Offers balanced and appropriate credit guidance to the Relationship Manager and Manager, collaborating to determine the most suitable credit strategy.
  • Proposes credit alternatives and innovative solutions to structure credits, ensuring transactions align with profitability and portfolio risk standards. Drafts credit approval memorandums.
  • Advises the Relationship Manager and Manager when loan pricing does not adequately reflect the inherent risks of the transaction, whether pricing is excessively high or low. Restructures loans and/or lines of credit as necessary, taking responsibility for minimizing potential Bank losses.
  • Conducts quarterly Problem Loan reporting for Criticized/Classified credits, including financial reviews of clients' conditions and monitoring of covenants and conditions. Takes a proactive stance in developing and implementing Action Plans, escalating potential credit issues to the Relationship Manager, CBS Manager, and/or Credit Manager.
  • Plays a key role in the early identification of problem loans and ensures timely and accurate adjustments in loan grades. Monitors and proactively addresses past dues in collaboration with the Relationship Manager.
  • Keeps abreast of all Bank lending policies and regulations. Consults with the Credit Manager and relevant Bank personnel regarding new and existing lending requirements and regulations.
  • May oversee loan documentation processes, collaborating with legal teams or external counsel to secure accurate documentation that fully protects the Bank's interests in the credit relationship. Regularly reviews collateral to mitigate credit exposure.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in underwriting medium to large-sized and moderately complex commercial credit.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a banking or financial services environment.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 10 years of experience in underwriting large and complex commercial loans.
Skills and Expertise
  • Requires extensive technical knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of commercial credit principles, financial concepts, and the ability to creatively solve complex credit challenges.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills in both verbal and written forms.
  • Exhibits strong organizational abilities.
  • Possesses the capability to take responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently to restructure loans and/or lines of credit as needed.
Compensation

Starting base salary: $111,408 - $189,738 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
