The starting salary range for this position is influenced by various factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, and geographical location. The complete salary range reflects the competitive market value for all employees in similar roles across the national landscape, offering opportunities for advancement as employees grow and develop in their positions. Certain roles may include a compensation plan that encompasses commission and/or bonus earnings, which vary based on multiple criteria outlined in the compensation plan for the role.

Position Overview
The Senior Underwriting Executive, specializing in Technology for the Middle Market, is tasked with cultivating, expanding, and sustaining a profitable portfolio of technology-related Property & Casualty business. This involves strategic marketing, informed underwriting decisions, fostering mutually beneficial relationships with agents and brokers, and establishing a leadership presence in the market while utilizing underwriting tools, systems, and expert resources. This role also includes mentoring and guiding less experienced underwriters in their areas of expertise, providing regular coaching and feedback to management regarding employee progress.

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluates, rates, and underwrites insurance applications by qualifying accounts, identifying and assessing risks, determining premiums, policy terms, and conditions, securing necessary approvals, and presenting proposals to agents/brokers while successfully negotiating agreements.
  • Agent/Broker Engagement: Exhibits a strong commitment to supporting the objectives of Agents and Brokers. Develops and maintains effective relationships with Agents and Brokers to facilitate product marketing through responsive service, site visits, and in-person renewal discussions, while enhancing knowledge of their clients' businesses. Cultivates a strong personal brand to ensure a sustainable pipeline with Agents/Brokers.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Manages a diverse and complex portfolio of technology business by analyzing performance, identifying growth opportunities, and executing marketing strategies to enhance market share through proactive outreach to brokers.
  • Deal Documentation: Ensures comprehensive documentation of files that reflects a thorough thought process and decision-making through detailed account reviews, approvals, and referrals that adhere to regulatory standards and underwriting guidelines.
  • Leadership Development: Actively mentors and coaches underwriters and account analysts in both technical and professional competencies. Demonstrates expertise in specific areas and provides regular updates to fellow underwriters.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engages in ongoing improvement initiatives by contributing suggestions, participating in problem-solving efforts, and utilizing continuous improvement methodologies to enhance team performance.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products, underwriting principles, pricing strategies, risk selection, market segments, and the regulatory environment; familiarity with insurance finance and actuarial concepts; understanding of loss control and risk engineering; and expertise in territory management.
  • Proven ability to leverage underwriting tools and resources to meet objectives, resolve complex issues, build strong professional relationships, and lead mentoring initiatives.
  • A relevant bachelor's degree; seven to ten years of pertinent experience preferred; professional insurance designations such as CPCU are strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in underwriting technology-related business.
  • Experience in Technology Errors & Omissions and Cyber insurance is highly desirable.
