SENIOR CREDIT ANALYST - COMMERCIAL BANKING

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

The Senior Credit Analyst plays a crucial role in the loan management process by delivering expertise in credit assessment and loan underwriting to a Commercial Banking team. This position involves evaluating potential loan transactions and assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers. The analyst is responsible for validating the credit evaluations conducted by Credit Analysts and providing insights and recommendations regarding proposed credit and associated risks. Thorough due diligence and background checks are essential before submitting the Credit Risk Recommendation ("CRR").

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluates loan applications and financial data, including third-party reports (e.g., real estate appraisals, environmental assessments, asset-based lending examinations, inventory appraisals, etc.); determines credit structure and terms; fully underwrites CRR in accordance with Bank policies and procedures; assesses sources and uses of funds; analyzes industry data, competitive factors, historical performance, projected outcomes, risks, and mitigating factors. Ensures that the CRR includes a well-supported recommendation or decision, accurate risk rating, and precise data and analytics.
  • Participates in client meetings at the request of the Relationship Manager, CBS Manager, or Credit Manager to facilitate the delivery of credit products and assist in resolving issues. Engages directly with borrowers for additional information and clarification of financial documents.
  • Offers balanced and appropriate credit guidance to the Relationship Manager and Manager, collaborating to determine suitable credit strategies.
  • Suggests credit alternatives and innovative structuring methods, ensuring transactions align with profitability and portfolio risk standards. Drafts credit approval memoranda.
  • Advises the Relationship Manager and Manager when loan pricing does not accurately reflect the inherent risks of the transaction, whether pricing is excessively high or low. Restructures loans and/or lines of credit as necessary, taking responsibility for minimizing potential Bank losses.
  • Conducts quarterly Problem Loan reporting for Criticized/Classified credits, including financial reviews of clients' conditions and monitoring of covenants and conditions. Proactively develops and implements Action Plans, escalating potential credit issues to the Relationship Manager, CBS Manager, and/or Credit Manager.
  • Plays a key role in early identification of problem loans and timely, accurate adjustments in loan grades. Monitors and proactively addresses past dues in collaboration with the Relationship Manager.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all Bank lending policies and regulations, consulting with the Credit Manager and relevant Bank personnel regarding new and existing lending requirements.
  • May oversee loan documentation, collaborating with legal counsel or other external advisors to ensure accurate documentation that fully protects the Bank's interests in the credit relationship. Regularly reviews collateral to minimize credit exposure.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in underwriting medium to large-sized and moderately complex commercial credit.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a banking or financial services environment, or a minimum of 10 years of experience in underwriting large and complex commercial loans.
Skills and Expertise
  • Requires extensive technical knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of commercial credit principles, financial concepts, and the ability to creatively solve complex credit challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Capacity to take responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently to restructure loans and/or lines of credit as needed.
Compensation

Starting base salary: $111,408 - $189,738 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
