Military and Family Life Counselor - Adults, Child Youth and School

Job Summary:

Magellan Health is seeking a highly skilled Military and Family Life Counselor to provide non-medical counseling services to children and youth of military service members and their families. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with military installations and schools to provide counseling, training, and health and wellness presentations to support the well-being of military families.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide non-medical counseling services to eligible children and youth of service members at assigned locations, including assessment, brief counseling, and consultation.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth, and provide appropriate linkages.
  • Participate in health fairs, base activities, and other events focused on children and youth, and provide training and health and wellness presentations.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with installation and facility POCs, and develop a professional working relationship with the installation/facility POC.
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol, and staff cases with the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Communicate with the Regional Supervisor and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on installations and in facilities.
  • Participate in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs, and other contract activities as assigned/appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health-related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory, or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • Minimum two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software, including Microsoft Suite, Internet navigation, smartphone/tablet, and application navigation, and video-conferencing platform navigation.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, and respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting.
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather and other military base conditions, and comply with various site-specific requirements to work at designated locations.
  • Ability to prove US Citizenship and be fluent in English.
  • Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for service members and their families, and ability to develop trusting, helping relationships.
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, and an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
