Financial Aid Counselor

The Financial Aid Counselor will serve as the primary contact for students and families navigating the financial aid process at Norfolk State University. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to ensure students understand their federal and state aid, as well as merit scholarships.
Key Responsibilities- Work with newly admitted students and families to help them navigate the financial aid process.
- Counsel and advise students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, and indebtedness.
- Collect and analyze files to make informed decisions for professional judgment and satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
- Ensure compliance with all financial aid policies, procedures, and regulations when reviewing financial aid applications.
- Exercise judgment when interpreting federal and state regulations for student situations.
- Ability to learn and use an automated financial aid system.
- Ability to make independent decisions and sound judgment.
- Knowledge of federal financial aid and state regulations and requirements.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, with a high degree of courtesy, timeliness, and structure.
