Support Staff/Instructional Support Specialist

Job Overview:
The primary role of the Instructional Support Specialist is to assist educators in meeting educational objectives by working closely with individual students or small groups to help them reach the overall skill levels expected in the classroom.
Qualifications:
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
- For Title I schools: Completed two (2) years of higher education; or
- For Title I schools: Hold an associate's degree (or higher); or
- For Title I schools: Demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal State or local academic assessment.
- Exhibit effective communication and collaboration skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Have experience working with children in structured environments.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions.
- Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid from recognized organizations.
Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the Principal.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Familiarize oneself with and adhere to established policies and procedures related to job responsibilities.
- Complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of in-service training annually.
- Assist assigned students with physical tasks as needed.
- Support students during recitation, reading, and other curriculum activities, guiding them without direct instruction.
- Assist in the library or media center as required.
- Notify the teacher of any issues or important information regarding individual students.
- Act as the primary resource for substitute teachers in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Participate in assigned in-service training programs.
- Operate and maintain instructional equipment.
- Support enrichment and remedial activities as directed by the teacher.
- Assist during emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, and recess.
- Help with learning displays, drill work, and attendance tracking.
- Provide supportive disciplinary assistance.
- Assist with meal and snack routines as necessary.
- Perform routine clerical tasks, including preparation of instructional materials and maintaining classroom records.
- Promote educational programs related to the assignment.
- Uphold high ethical standards and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Employment Terms:
- Hourly (Grade 04)
- 6.5 hours per day
- 32.5 hours per week
- 180 days per year
- 9 1⁄4 months duration
