Job Title: Educational Support Specialist - Special Education

Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required
  2. For Title I schools: Completion of two (2) years of higher education; or
  3. For Title I schools: An Associate Degree (or higher); or
  4. For Title I schools: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through formal assessment
  5. Ability to read and follow written instructions
  6. Minimum one year of experience working with children in a structured environment
  7. Current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross/American Heart Association
  8. Physical capability to lift and assist children of varying weights
  9. Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, parents, and staff
Reports To: Principal and/or Director of Special Education

Job Goal: To support the teacher in providing individualized instruction for students

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Familiarize and adhere to written guidelines, policies, and procedures from supervisors
  2. Complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of in-service training annually
  3. Assist in organizing daily seat work and learning centers
  4. Review daily assignments and homework
  5. Utilize diverse learning strategies to work one-on-one or in small groups with students across all subjects including math, reading, spelling, and science
  6. Operate necessary equipment such as photocopiers and projectors
  7. Create educational materials and learning aids
  8. Document assignments and maintain the chalkboard
  9. Grade student work
  10. Prepare and type worksheets and assessments
  11. Assist with administrative tasks such as paperwork and report cards
  12. Support the administration of assessments
  13. Implement and monitor IEP objectives
  14. Manage student behavior as directed
  15. Assist students returning from absences
  16. Participate in regular classes as directed
  17. Support self-help skill development
  18. Assist with personal care needs as required
  19. Follow medical procedures as trained by the School Nurse
  20. Assist with the physical management of students with disabilities
  21. Implement motor skill activities under the guidance of therapists
  22. Support speech therapy activities as directed
  23. Assist with routine exercise programs as instructed by therapists
  24. Supervise students during teacher-led activities
  25. Facilitate community-based instruction
  26. Engage in professional development training provided by the School District
  27. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards regarding student information
  28. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
Employment Terms:
  • Hourly (Grade 04)
  • 6.5 hours per day
  • 32.5 hours per week
  • 180 days per year
  • 9 1⁄4 months
