Financial Operations Manager

Location: Sonoma County, California

Compensation: $110-130K plus benefits


The Financial Operations Manager is tasked with the establishment, oversight, and evaluation of all production-related expenditures and SKU-level standard profitability. This role includes the management of a thorough cost control framework. Responsibilities encompass the formulation of production-related budgets and forecasts, analysis of actual versus budgeted results down to SKU-level detail, and scrutiny of SKU Bills of Materials (BOMs) for precision. The manager will also oversee the regular maintenance and annual revision of standard costs, investigate variances, and propose process modifications to reduce purchase price, labor, and overhead discrepancies. Additionally, the role includes capital expenditure planning, focusing on ROI and payback assessments. It is crucial to proactively identify and communicate future financial impacts stemming from current situations and business decisions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain dashboards and reports detailing key operational and cost metrics across SKUs and product categories.
  • Collaborate with production leadership to create impactful business-level analytics and streamline processes.
  • Construct and refine COGS models, generating COGS and cash-planning forecasts for quarterly, annual, and long-term budgets by SKU and product category.
  • Conduct multi-variable sensitivity and trend analyses to pinpoint cost change drivers and integrate findings into forecasting tools.
  • In partnership with the Purchasing team, evaluate and challenge supplier purchases and trends by analyzing purchasing statistics, industry benchmarks, and best practices.
  • Examine production and operational performance data to uncover trends and opportunities in key departments, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyze actual trends, budget variances, historical spending, and costs, preparing a variety of statistical reports.
  • Oversee a cost control system that accurately measures costs and production variances, enabling precise projections of operational outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Production colleagues to drive ongoing enhancements in costs, processes, and systems, ensuring consistency in costing methodologies.

    Manage, analyze, and oversee annual budgeting and forecasting processes for all production and facility expenditures.
  • Evaluate actual performance against results to update and reforecast production costs.
    Maintain asset management reports and models, including forecast summaries, financial reports, management fee analyses, and benchmarking reports.
  • Formulate assumptions and create proformas for potential ROI projects and other capital investment opportunities.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree (or equivalent) in Finance/Accounting or Business; CPA, CMA, or MBA (or other advanced business degree) is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in finance or financial analyst roles with progressive responsibilities in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems.
