POSITION OVERVIEW

We are in search of a Quality Engineer (QE) to spearhead our quality initiatives. The QE will be tasked with interpreting customer contract stipulations, engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation to ensure adherence and effective execution within the LMI Quality Management System (QMS). This role encompasses the full spectrum of the QMS, from proposal evaluation to the final delivery and documentation of quality assurance.

In all endeavors, the QE will uphold LMI's strategic objectives, quality standards, and core values by fostering our dedication to complete customer satisfaction, high-quality products and services, and employee growth. This position requires on-site presence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary duties and responsibilities of the QE may differ based on the specific assignment within a given operation and manufacturing site at LMI Aerospace. The following outlines the essential activities typical of this role:

  • Identify and communicate customer contractual obligations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customers regarding quality-related matters.
  • Facilitate and support customer or industry quality audits and certification processes.
  • Develop Quality Assurance Program Plans as necessary.
  • Revise and maintain procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Conduct process and product audits to support quality adherence.
  • Engage in design reviews, design validation, and Integrated Product Team (IPT) support as required.
  • Formulate inspection plans and methodologies for manufacturing processes, including the necessary inspection tools and equipment to ensure efficient inspection workflows, including First Article Inspection (FAI) plans as needed.
  • Assist and educate personnel in procedures and processes, establishing and documenting inspection criteria and process enhancements, including process audits.
  • Participate in and lead team-based corrective action and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing quality.
  • Utilize qualitative and statistical methodologies to gather, summarize, analyze, interpret, and communicate process capability and performance, including key statistical process control (SPC) tools.
  • Oversee Root Cause and Corrective Action initiatives across the organization.
  • Manage customer quality portals and ensure all actions are recorded in the internal tracking system.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality, or a related field preferred, along with 3-5 years of quality engineering experience in the aerospace industry. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Familiarity with the aerospace sector is advantageous.
  • Experience in inspecting detailed components, tooling, and assemblies is required. Aerospace inspection experience and knowledge of computer-aided design systems and digital product definitions are preferred.
  • Experience in auditing, preferably to AS9000/AS9100 standards. Lead Auditor certification for AS9000/AS9100 is preferred.
  • Proficiency in conducting root cause analysis and developing corrective actions.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to utilize enterprise applications (e.g., material resource planning, product lifecycle management) and various specialized software applications on a daily basis.
  • Certification in the Body of Knowledge for ASQ Quality Engineering is preferred.
  • SAP experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
