POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Engineer in Additive Manufacturing is tasked with supporting the exploration, development, and implementation of advanced additive manufacturing techniques. Collaborating closely with principal engineers, program management, and quality assurance teams, this role serves as a vital technical resource in the domain of 3D printing and subsequent processing. The Lead Engineer evaluates intricate engineering challenges by analyzing and advising on all technical facets of projects and processes. This position also entails providing mentorship to junior engineers and technicians involved in collaborative projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and oversees new manufacturing methodologies as required, offering expertise on Bills of Materials and process routings to enhance manufacturing operations.
- Diagnoses issues related to rejected components and manufacturing challenges, utilizing knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) along with precision measurement tools.
- Engages in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) evaluations with internal teams, assessing drawings, 3D models, and specifications to ensure manufacturability.
- Creates, requests, and updates various documentation, including customer-specific requirements and operational routings.
- Assists in the design and management of fixtures for various manufacturing processes, ensuring successful implementation on the production floor.
- Participates in and occasionally leads problem-solving initiatives employing lean manufacturing techniques.
- Contributes to the development of programs, including Laser Marking and CNC programming, along with creating associated models and documentation.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with Operations Analysts to ensure data is systematically monitored and reported, supporting the implementation of management systems at the site level.
- Contributes to achieving site annual and strategic objectives, focusing on performance metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and productivity.
- Supports the establishment of a robust management operating system that promptly identifies necessary adjustments for cross-functional teams.
- Participates in training initiatives aimed at enhancing team capabilities in alignment with site goals and program management milestones.
- Assists in defining and implementing best practices as outlined by the Director of Operations Excellence Transformation.
- Provides guidance to team members, ensuring they possess the requisite knowledge and skills for their roles.
- Engages in planning and conducting engineering assignments as directed by management.
- Mentors production staff on enhancements to manufacturing techniques and new equipment.
- Communicates with customers regarding critical aspects of new product introductions.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Required)
- Master's degree in Engineering (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience (Required)
- Preferred experience of 7 years in engineering roles
- 2+ years in a manufacturing environment (Preferred)
- Experience with CNC equipment and machining (Preferred)
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles (Preferred)
