Key Responsibilities

Our Anesthesia Technicians ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective anesthesia services, supporting both routine and complex medical procedures by assisting in the setup and maintenance of patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems throughout the anesthesia process.

This role involves assisting the anesthesiologist or anesthetist by managing and maintaining intricate equipment required for major surgical interventions.

  • Assembles and operates autotransfusion devices (Cell Saver) while providing essential information to attending physicians, residents, registered nurses, and other colleagues regarding various anesthetic devices and supplies.
  • Educates and trains new staff and residents on different physiological monitors and supplies.
  • Conducts ACT analysis, intra-aortic balloon (IAB) pump methods, and glucose testing; responsible for the proper function and upkeep of the machines involved in these processes.
  • Performs anesthesia machine checks.
  • Assembles and verifies the anesthesia delivery system; manages the calibration of the EtCO2 monitor.
  • Ensures the readiness of basic airway and specialty carts; calibrates the O2 monitor; assesses the readiness of other equipment (ECG, BP, Temp, and SPO2 machines) to prevent interference.
  • Assists with arterial line, central venous pressure (CVP), and pulmonary artery (PA) placement.
  • Supports airway management; ensures rapid sequence/cricoid pressure and fiberoptic equipment are prepared for use.

Qualifications

This position necessitates demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Anesthesiology Technician Certification is required, with maintenance of continuing education units as mandated by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
  • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • BLS certification is required every two years.
  • Understanding of anatomical functions and components of anesthesia medications.
  • Experience with proper procedural control of biological hazards, infection control, and universal precautions; adherence to ethical and legal responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of safe handling and storage of bulk and cylinder gases that may pose fire, electrical, or explosion hazards in the operating room; understanding the purpose, use, and care of equipment used for monitoring anesthesia administration and maintaining the patient's airway.
  • Familiarity with proper sterilization and aseptic techniques; appropriate usage of common anesthetic agents and drugs; principles of purchasing and supply level control; human anatomy and physiology; basic pathophysiology of common diseases; autotransfusion methods and operation; fluid therapy and intravenous lines; ECG application and interpretation; ACT analysis, blood gas and glucose sampling, including machine operation; pacemaker and defibrillator operations; and basic transesophageal echocardiography use, care, and operation.
