Overview: The role of a Controls Engineer is crucial in ensuring the seamless operation of manufacturing processes through advanced control systems. This position requires a dedicated individual who can meet essential functions effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the Manufacturing Playbook and Playlist, applying these principles across all relevant areas.
  • Possess foundational expertise in tuning, synchronizing, and sequencing Siemens drives, particularly in web handling applications, to enhance reliability and automation. This includes working with various drive systems such as S110, G120, S120, Micromaster, and Baldor 18h series.
  • Create detailed support documentation for troubleshooting and maintenance of drive systems.
  • Interpret and troubleshoot electrical schematics related to machinery.
  • Configure PLC messaging instructions and network settings effectively.
  • Design Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), control narratives, and testing protocols for both new and existing systems.
  • Develop intermediate PLC programs and operator interfaces in alignment with established programming standards, ensuring comprehensive documentation and modular programming practices.
  • Formulate training materials to enhance understanding of programming standards and best practices in controls engineering.
  • Collaborate with Plant Systems and Reliability Group, as well as other manufacturing entities, to establish enterprise-wide standards for hardware, programming, and documentation related to controls and drive systems.
  • Guide and mentor controls specialists, electricians, and electrical engineers within the organization.
  • Engage with external contractors and consultants to specify necessary equipment and system installations.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and capabilities in controls and drives, leading the implementation of new advancements when appropriate.
  • Foster relationships with key personnel to identify potential projects and generate business for plant systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in web-handling applications and controls/drives programming.
  • Intermediate understanding of web handling production processes and manufacturing systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Siemens Simatic and Simotion drives, particularly S120s.
  • Familiarity with other drive systems such as Micromaster and Baldor 18h.
  • Experience in PLC logic development, primarily with Siemens 505 and Step 7 (S7) Series Systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics.
  • Intermediate skills in AutoCAD and SCADA systems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Completion of relevant training programs, including Siemens refresher courses and OSHA training.
  • Preferred skills in optimizing Siemens S120 drive systems and developing Wonderware object-oriented HMI in System Platform.
