Job Overview:

The Library, Information, and Technology Services (LITS) Division is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment, empowering individuals to engage meaningfully with the world. We facilitate access to information, expertise, and technology that enhances academic pursuits.

Reporting to the Head of Discovery Services, the Discovery and Systems Librarian will collaborate with a dynamic team to connect the academic community with a wealth of information resources. This role is integral to the Discovery Services department, focusing on optimizing the functionality of various systems to enhance the discovery and access to both electronic and physical resources.

In partnership with colleagues across LITS and affiliated institutions, the Discovery and Systems Librarian will oversee the management and integration of the library's discovery and digital access platforms, ensuring seamless user experiences. This position emphasizes the importance of providing comprehensive access to a wide range of information resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the collaborative management of library information systems.
  • Act as the primary liaison with systems vendors and internal teams to facilitate system integrations and upgrades.
  • Consult with colleagues to enhance public-facing library interfaces.
  • Work closely with the Head of Discovery Services to bridge gaps between systems and access.
  • Develop innovative solutions to address system limitations.
  • Create and manage queries and reports based on departmental needs.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and engage in professional development.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service while addressing inquiries and issues.
  • Contribute to collaborative working groups and professional meetings.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the library environment.
  • Participate in campus-wide events as part of core responsibilities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, including backup support for colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of library experience, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Familiarity with library cataloging, metadata, and technical services workflows.
  • Experience with integrated library systems and e-resource management.
  • Knowledge of programming or markup languages and APIs.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with bibliographic record transfers and MARCedit.
  • Familiarity with digital repositories and collaborative tools.
  • Proven ability to support colleague development.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to operate office equipment and computers.
  • Ability to lift and move objects as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in various formats.
