Your Contributions

The Chief Technology Organization is responsible for the overall Technology & Data Strategy, Enterprise Architecture, and the engineering, delivery, and support of our Cloud-enabled products and services that empower Sallie Mae. As a vital leader within the Chief Technology Officer organization, you will oversee the business management function and assist Sallie Mae in achieving its strategic objectives. You will manage and govern the team's communications plan, finances, vendor contracts, demand, and capacity functions, as well as oversee the portfolio of work and manage associated risks, issues, and controls.

Key Responsibilities

Communications Strategy

Design, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive communications strategy to ensure stakeholder engagement and awareness of the CTO function and its strategic goals. Serve as a brand ambassador for the CTO organization, showcasing team achievements and promoting our plans, products, and services. Prepare various management materials and reports tailored for diverse stakeholders. Organize and host team events to foster engagement and alignment.

Financial Management

Capture requirements and demand from the leadership team. Review and refine estimates for work prior to budget incorporation. Prepare and analyze monthly forecast data. Identify discrepancies between actuals and forecasts, and determine root causes. Execute strategies to realize savings.

Vendor and Contract Oversight

Maintain an authoritative inventory of all technology-related contracts and expenditures. Proactively analyze and plan for contract renewals well in advance. Conduct industry analysis and cost benchmarking to optimize expenses. Assist internal Product/Service owners in defining unit costs for their services. Monitor vendor service levels and trends monthly, ensuring compliance with requirements. Implement performance improvement plans for vendors as necessary.

Capacity and Demand Oversight

Maintain the organization's human capital roster. Collaborate with leadership to ensure appropriate capacity allocation to priorities. Prepare reports to help leadership balance demand and capacity, prioritize work, and manage stakeholder expectations. Design and optimize the team's intake mechanisms and backlogs, providing insights for leadership on demand.

Portfolio and Project Oversight

Track and report on the overall health of the project portfolio. Address and resolve issues that may hinder timely and budget-compliant delivery. Lead and execute cross-team projects and initiatives. Collaborate with leadership to track key metrics. Prepare Monthly Executive Business Reviews covering various critical aspects.

Process, Risk, and Control Management

Ensure that processes, risks, and controls are documented and compliant with standards. Monitor the health of control execution and report on incidents. Collaborate with risk partners to address findings and lead audits across the organization.

Qualifications

Minimum education, skills, and experience required:

Highly organized and resourceful self-starter with a proven track record of delivering results in fast-paced environments. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage an audience. Experience in synthesizing data and preparing materials for executive audiences. Strong problem-solving abilities, resourcefulness, and attention to detail. Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and other reporting tools. Experience in software license management and vendor oversight. Ability to design and document processes and technical architectures effectively. Skilled in simplifying complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 5 years of experience in supporting executive-level business management functions. Program/Project Management Certification (PMI/PMP) preferred. Additional technical certifications (TOGAF, SAFE, NIST, ITIL, CMMI) are a plus.
