Job Overview

The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician plays a crucial role in supporting operations through a blend of maintenance tasks and engineering initiatives, including the development of new products. Under guidance, the I&E Technician engages in a variety of engineering responsibilities related to the planning, installation, monitoring, and upkeep of control systems and machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and document maintenance, calibration, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems.
  • Calibrate, diagnose issues, and repair plant instrumentation such as transmitters, analyzers, control valves, switches, and relays.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, and electrical systems.
  • Work with diverse instruments including ultrasonic, guided wave radar, mass flow, and pressure transducers.
  • Interpret piping and instrument diagrams, signal flow diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, one-line drawings, and loop sheets.
  • Execute all tasks in alignment with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Engage in the planning and execution of both minor and major shutdowns.
  • Provide technical and hands-on assistance as needed during shutdowns.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on electrical systems ranging from low voltage 24VDC to 480VAC.
  • Utilize instrument drawings and P&IDs to identify end devices and components.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in instrumentation of equipment is necessary.
  • Proficiency in the design, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment is essential.
  • Familiarity with PLC, HMI, automated equipment, and standard instrumentation types (4-20 mA, 0-5 V, pulse, MODBUS) is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and one-line diagrams is mandatory.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including electrical technicians, mechanics, welders, operations personnel, engineers, and safety professionals is crucial.
  • Journeyman electrician certification is preferred.
  • Experience in the natural gas industry is advantageous.

Work Environment

Conditions may vary and include:

  • Controlled office environment
  • Fieldwork in various locations
  • Equipment fabrication and panel shops
  • Customer offices as needed based on project requirements
  • Driving to and from locations is necessary
  • Adherence to general industry and site-specific safety policies is required
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift 25 lbs or more.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, up to 4 hours.
  • Must be able to drive on behalf of the company.
