The ChESS team is dedicated to providing expert guidance and analysis on public policy matters related to climate change and its implications for transportation. This includes evaluating legislative and regulatory proposals, conducting in-depth studies, and drafting or reviewing policy statements concerning climate change. Our team serves as the central point for reviewing and coordinating the Department's transportation policies and objectives regarding climate change.

This position is available for local candidates and offers remote work options for those outside the area.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize expertise to develop, coordinate, and assess climate policies impacting transportation.
  • Assist in formulating and coordinating policies and programs related to climate initiatives within DOT and other federal agencies.
  • Review case studies and reports on climate policies to evaluate their impact on proposed recommendations, preparing briefings for the Director and Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy.
  • Conduct Project Readiness Reviews and ensure quality assurance under the guidance of OST-P30.
  • Analyze data related to NEPA compliance duration and its effects on grant agreements and fund obligations.
  • Research environmental issues in transportation, focusing on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change impacts, while fostering innovative environmental partnerships.
  • Ensure alignment with existing environmental regulations while exploring new strategies for transportation project development.
  • Evaluate program functions and policy initiatives related to climate policy.
  • Advise senior officials on climate change and related transportation policy issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in environmental impact principles and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on quality output.
  • This role is available for local candidates and offers remote options for those outside the area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of environmental program requirements and federal policies, including air, water, and land pollution management.
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods for assessing and enhancing environmental programs.
  • Ability to design and conduct strategic program studies with broad parameters.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all work.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: USD $115,000.00/Yr. to USD $140,000.00/Yr. Our benefits include:
