Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist provides holistic nursing care through thorough assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in alignment with facility or departmental protocols under the guidance of nursing leadership. This role is essential in ensuring a secure work environment and executing all job responsibilities safely. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is expected to maintain clinical and professional expertise relevant to the patient population served and must be prepared to deliver nursing services across various patient care areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather relevant data and information concerning the healthcare consumer's health or situation.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a personalized care plan.
  • Develop a strategy that outlines methods to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Implement the care plan, coordinate service delivery, and apply strategies to enhance health and safety.
  • Delegate care tasks to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with legal and policy guidelines.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in an ethical manner.
  • Engage in culturally competent practices that respect diversity and inclusion.
  • Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate leadership within the professional setting and the nursing field.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to walk, stand, sit, lift, reach, stoop, bend, push, and pull. The candidate must be capable of lifting and supporting up to 35 pounds in handling patients and medical supplies. Proficiency in English communication is essential. Candidates should possess intact sensory abilities and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Quick responsiveness to changes in patient or unit conditions is necessary. Physical Abilities Testing may be required.

Qualifications

Must be a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with at least one year of nursing experience in a specialized area. Current Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers as per American Heart Association standards is required. A valid RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is necessary. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated by the nursing leadership.

Patient Population Served

Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles and possesses the skills and competencies appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.

Protected Health Information

Access to protected health information (PHI) will be limited to what is necessary for job functions. Information sharing will occur on a need-to-know basis for work purposes only. Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI is determined by job responsibilities and is controlled through user ID and password.

Equipment and Tools

Utilization of all relevant medical equipment and supplies is expected.
