Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Intake Counselor to join our team at the Lower Eastside Service Center. As an Intake Counselor, you will play a critical role in implementing the centralized intake process, conducting motivational interviews, and assessing clients for admission to our programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct clinical diagnostic interviews with candidates and implement admissions criteria for direct admission to all programs.
  • Obtain release from clients to secure information from child welfare, parole, probation, legal aid, and other providers.
  • Write letters to outside agencies informing them of services provided by the program.
  • Serve as the liaison between referral sources during the admission process.
  • Complete OASAS-required reports.
  • Receive phone referrals, set up screening appointments, and write notes on assessment interviews.
  • Work closely with LCSW and medical staff in regard to clients' medical/psychological issues relating to appropriateness for admission.
  • Submit reports concerning the number of clients seen and disposition.
  • Submit census reports indicating the number of clients on the waiting list, the number of clients in the program, discharges, and new admissions.
  • Maintain relationships through ongoing outreach with all potential referral sources.
  • Fills in for other Counselors who are on leave.
Requirements
  • GED/High School diploma and CASAC required; or CASAC-T and relevant experience. Must obtain CASAC within 6 months of employment.
  • Must be multi-culturally sensitive to the needs of clients with substance use disorder. Computer competent.
