The Employment Specialist for Refugee Integration will be instrumental in assisting newly-arrived refugees in securing employment and achieving independence.

Position Summary:

The Employment Specialist is tasked with ensuring that adult refugees who are ready for work secure their initial employment in the United States within the timelines set by federal regulations. This role involves documenting job search efforts and communicating client employment status with relevant team members. The Employment Specialist will remain informed about local job market dynamics and cultivate partnerships with regional businesses and employers. This position also provides guidance and resources to refugee clients regarding all facets of job searching and career development as they embark on rebuilding their lives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in refugee or immigrant social services is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are advantageous (particularly in Arabic, Haitian Creole, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, or Ukrainian).
  • A Bachelor's Degree in social services, education, or a related discipline.
  • Strong organizational and communication abilities, with a capacity to meet strict deadlines.
  • Familiarity with data entry and management systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, including case managers, fellow employment specialists, navigators, and interpreters.
  • Cultural sensitivity towards clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Flexibility in working hours is essential.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Employment Tasks:

  • Build and enhance relationships with local employers.
  • Collaborate with the refugee employment team to identify sectors and specific organizations interested in hiring refugees.
  • Evaluate the employment needs of clients.
  • Develop personalized job plans and resumes for each client.
  • Provide job coaching and assist clients in their job search efforts.
  • Conduct initial employment assessments.
  • Maintain regular communication with refugee case managers regarding client progress.

Job Placement Tasks:

  • Support clients in completing job applications and provide follow-up assistance as necessary.
  • Work with the refugee employment team to create and facilitate job-related workshops for clients.
  • Prepare clients for interviews, ensuring they have transportation and follow-up communication post-interview.
  • Assist clients in opening bank accounts and obtaining necessary employment documentation.

Post-Employment Tasks:

  • Conduct follow-ups with employed clients at designated intervals (e.g., 30, 60, 90 days) to monitor retention.
  • Act as a liaison with employers, addressing any issues that may arise, particularly those related to cultural differences.
  • Support clients in advancing to higher-paying or career-oriented positions as program priorities allow.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of written and electronic records in compliance with funding and agency standards.
  • Prepare timely case notes for all interactions with or on behalf of clients.
  • Engage in departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Attend relevant local, regional, and national employment meetings and refugee resettlement conferences as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
