POSITION SUMMARY

The Community College of Aurora is dedicated to serving a diverse population by offering exceptional educational programs and support services aimed at facilitating student transfer and employment opportunities. As a Guided Pathways institution, we are committed to providing our students with a cohesive experience from their initial contact through to the achievement of their academic objectives. Pathway Advisors are compassionate, dedicated professionals who excel in student interaction and support throughout their educational journey.

Pathway Advisors will collaborate closely with faculty within the designated Guided Academic Pathways to create targeted interventions that foster student growth and commitment to completing their degrees or certificates. Responsibilities include proactive academic advising, career guidance, financial aid support, and success coaching tailored to specific Guided Academic Pathways.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate the academic needs and career aspirations of students within assigned Guided Academic Pathways. Assist students in selecting and entering appropriate pathways. Advise both new and continuing students on credential completion and transferability of their degree programs.
  • Provide proactive case management for new degree-seeking students, monitoring their academic progress and intervening as necessary to promote retention.
  • Act as a liaison between Guided Academic Pathways and academic departments.
  • Build relationships with faculty members within assigned pathways.
  • Establish connections with transfer representatives at leading institutions for CCA students, staying informed about degree requirements and transfer processes.
  • Support student persistence by guiding them through their Academic Course Map, providing transfer information, and making necessary campus and community referrals.
  • Engage in foundational career planning discussions with students, aligning their interests with relevant courses and programs.
  • Offer basic financial aid advising, including financial literacy and debt management information.
  • Participate in events that promote and enhance the Guided Academic Pathway community.
  • Assist at-risk students, including those on academic probation or suspension, through early alert systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CCA degree curricula, certificate programs, and transfer-related issues.
  • Stay informed about CCA policies and procedures regarding admissions, enrollment, and program completion.
  • Utilize various tracking and communication technologies to implement proactive advising strategies.
  • Engage in ongoing training to enhance skills in academic advising, career counseling, and financial aid advising.
  • Participate in orientation sessions and events that support student success.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience in student affairs, particularly in advising or related fields.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, fostering effective working relationships.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to engage with a diverse college community.
  • Student-centered approach with a focus on student development and strengths.
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and professional development in a dynamic work environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual capabilities.
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, advising, or a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising.
  • Experience working with students in a community college context.
  • Familiarity with Banner software.
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary is $50,968.00 annually. The specific salary is determined by departmental budget availability and internal equity considerations. CCA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous leave and holiday benefits.
