POSITION TITLE: Accounting Settlement Specialist

REPORTS TO: Manager of Settlement Accounting

SALARY: Competitive salary based on experience

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Exempt

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of comprehensive accounting or settlement experience.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, accounting software, and databases.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Role Purpose:

The Accounting Settlement Specialist will support the Settlement Team by managing essential accounting tasks that facilitate client payments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in client-facing settlement summaries.
  • Develop settlement summaries and packages for legal representatives.
  • Process and print checks from settlement funds.
  • Reconcile activities related to settlement accounts.
  • Manage undeposited checks and notify attorneys accordingly.
  • Conduct daily bank deposits for various entities and document related ACH transactions.
  • Extract data from the accounting system for reporting purposes.
Essential Skills:
  • Experience in a law firm is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Detail-oriented approach
    • Review entries made by others and accurately record high volumes of transactions.
  • Effective time management
    • Prioritize tasks to prevent bottlenecks, assist attorneys and clients, and manage daily essential duties.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Clearly articulate decisions and findings, assist colleagues, and seek help when necessary.
  • Problem-solving abilities
    • Identify solutions for existing and emerging challenges, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Proficient in software applications:
    • Microsoft Office Suite - Outlook, Word, Excel.
    • SharePoint and OneDrive.
    • Adobe Acrobat.
    • Familiarity with Sage Intacct and Neos/Needles is advantageous.
