Job Overview

The Commercial Banking Specialist at Burke & Herbert Bank & Trust will collaborate with various bank personnel, including fellow Commercial Banking Specialists, Relationship Managers, Branch Leaders, and other departments such as Loan Processing and Debt Management. This role involves presenting loan proposals to the Loan Committee and Board of Directors while reporting directly to a supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate new client relationships to drive business growth for the bank.
  • Engage in market events to enhance brand visibility.
  • Assess the creditworthiness of applicants and evaluate their capacity for loan repayment.
  • Negotiate loan terms, including pricing, repayment options, and collateral requirements.
  • Establish and maintain competitive interest rate structures in alignment with bank policies, with support from management or the Loan Committee.
  • Review and analyze customer loan applications, providing recommendations to the Credit Department and Loan Committee.
  • Stay informed on new regulations affecting business lending and advise management as necessary.
  • Participate in required training sessions relevant to the role.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient in loan systems, including the ability to generate and manage loan documentation.
  • Ability to cross-sell and promote additional banking products to clients.
  • Adhere to a structured calling system as established by the supervisor based on performance expectations.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in a financial institution or lending department is preferred.
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate and lending policies is advantageous.
  • Understanding of lending services and cash management solutions is preferred.
  • Strong managerial, communication, organizational, and sales skills are preferred.

Supervisory Role

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is situated in a dynamic office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, and photocopiers. Job functions are performed through various communication methods, including phone calls and in-person meetings.

Physical Requirements

The role necessitates manual dexterity and the ability to lift files and open cabinets, with occasional bending or standing as required.

Travel Requirements

Some travel may be necessary for this position.
