Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of the nutritional status of pediatric patients to identify suitable nutrition-focused interventions and provide continuous evaluation to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Deliver nutrition counseling and education to patients and their families, ensuring understanding and compliance.
  • Implement medical nutrition therapy for patients based on evidence-based guidelines across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Educate and mentor dietetic interns while providing guidance to food service staff regarding the nutritional quality of meals and formulas.
  • Act as a nutrition authority on interdisciplinary teams and within the community.
Essential Functions
  • Adhere to the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics published Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) for Registered Dietitians.
  • Provide comprehensive medical nutrition therapy for patients in assigned locations.
  • Conduct effective nutrition assessments to determine nutritional status and implement interventions aimed at improving clinical outcomes.
  • Perform ongoing nutrition reassessments to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Develop and execute appropriate nutrition interventions based on assessment guidelines, tracking measurable outcomes to monitor progress.
  • Document patient education in the EMR, noting readiness to learn, potential barriers, understanding levels, and expected compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition is required; a similar degree with completed dietetic internship and active credentialing through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is also acceptable.
  • Master's Degree in Nutrition is preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric clinical nutrition is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of human and pediatric nutrition principles.
  • Understanding of pediatric nutritional requirements for diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with clinical medical nutrition therapy principles and practices.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Ability to engage in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
  • Proficient in formulating nutrition interventions and demonstrating advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct educational sessions for clinical nutrition staff and other healthcare professionals.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current and valid licensure as a licensed medical nutrition therapist (LMNT) in Nebraska is required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required.
  • Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP) or related certification is preferred.
  • Professional membership with the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics is preferred.
