Position Summary
As a Pediatric Nutrition Specialist, you will accurately evaluate the nutritional needs of pediatric patients to establish suitable nutrition-focused strategies and conduct ongoing assessments to ensure effective outcomes. You will offer nutrition counseling and education to patients and their families, delivering medical nutrition therapy based on evidence-based guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Additionally, you will mentor dietetic interns and provide guidance to food service staff regarding meal and formula adequacy, making informed recommendations to healthcare professionals and caregivers. You will also serve as a nutrition authority on interdisciplinary teams and within the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) for Registered Dietitians.
    •Deliver comprehensive medical nutrition therapy for patients in designated inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
    •Conduct thorough nutrition assessments to ascertain nutritional status and implement appropriate interventions aimed at improving clinical outcomes.
    •Perform continuous nutrition reassessments to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
    •Develop and execute tailored nutrition interventions based on assessment guidelines, ensuring measurable outcomes to track progress while utilizing approved nutrition practice guidelines from reputable sources.
  • Utilize evidence-based best practices to enhance patient outcomes.
    •Present journal articles, case studies, and recent research findings to fellow clinical dietitians.
    •Act as a nutrition expert within the organization and the community by providing educational presentations, participating in journal clubs, and engaging in speaking opportunities.
  • Maintain compliance with quantitative measures required by regulatory agencies, including chart reviews and continuing education requirements.
  • Review clinical nutrition policies and research-based nutrition therapy guidelines.
  • Regular attendance is essential for this role.
  • Fulfill physical requirements as outlined in the job description.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition is required; a similar degree with completed dietetic internship and active credentialing through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is also acceptable.
  • Master's Degree in Nutrition is preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric clinical nutrition is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong understanding of human and pediatric nutrition principles.
  • Familiarity with pediatric nutritional requirements across diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of clinical medical nutrition therapy principles and practices.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Ability to engage in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
  • Capability to formulate nutrition interventions and demonstrate advanced problem-solving and clinical judgment.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in conducting educational sessions for clinical nutrition staff and other healthcare professionals.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current and valid licensure as a licensed medical nutrition therapist (LMNT) in Nebraska is required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required.
  • Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP) or related certification is preferred.
  • Professional membership in the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics is preferred.
