Position Overview
A casual status (PRN) Dietitian is needed to provide coverage during team members' absences at Children's Hospital & Medical Center, the premier pediatric healthcare facility in the region. Key Responsibilities
As a Pediatric Dietitian, you will:
- Assess the nutritional needs of pediatric patients and develop tailored nutrition-focused interventions.
- Provide ongoing evaluations to monitor the effectiveness of nutritional strategies.
- Deliver nutrition education and counseling to patients and their families.
- Implement medical nutrition therapy based on evidence-based guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Educate and mentor dietetic interns, contributing to their professional development.
- Guide food service staff on the nutritional adequacy of meals and formulas, making recommendations to healthcare professionals.
- Act as a nutrition expert within interdisciplinary teams and in community outreach initiatives.
Essential Functions
In this role, you will meet the standards set forth by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, including:
- Providing comprehensive medical nutrition therapy in assigned locations.
- Conducting thorough nutrition assessments to identify needs and implement effective interventions.
- Regularly reassessing nutritional plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Developing measurable goals for nutrition interventions based on established guidelines.
- Documenting patient education efforts and readiness to learn in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Staying informed on current research and best practices in pediatric nutrition.
- Participating in quality improvement projects to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition, or a related field with a completed dietetic internship.
- Active registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Preferred: A Master's Degree in Nutrition and at least two years of experience in pediatric clinical nutrition.
Skills and Abilities
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- In-depth knowledge of pediatric nutrition principles and requirements.
- Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills in medical nutrition therapy.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology and software for nutritional information retrieval.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
Licenses and Certifications
Required certifications include:
- Current licensure as a medical nutrition therapist in Nebraska.
- Registered Dietitian status from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Preferred: Certification as a Pediatric Nutrition Specialist or related credentials.
