Position Overview:

As a Logistics Operations Coordinator at Del Monte Fresh Produce, you will be responsible for managing and facilitating the logistics associated with freight and transportation. A thorough understanding of DOT regulations and guidelines is crucial for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service by consistently surpassing the expectations of both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute significantly to the sourcing and development of Carriers/Brokers.
  • Efficiently manage the dispatch of Company-controlled freight while assisting sales and commodity group managers.
  • Negotiate competitive rates with Carriers/Brokers for expedited shipments, re-routes, and new transportation lanes.
  • Ensure compliance with rate criteria as established by corporate pricing.
  • Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) for an efficient tendering process to select the most cost-effective providers.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy in billing and dispatch operations (98% or higher).
  • Coordinate effectively between carrier drivers/dispatch and sales teams.
  • Manage the posting of freight on various load boards and secure carrier bookings.
  • Verify rates through the load tendering process and ensure adherence to Del Monte Carrier/Broker standards.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures while managing additional costs such as demurrage, detention, and layovers.
  • Ensure timely performance for Pick-Ups and Deliveries, aiming for a 97% or higher success rate.
  • Monitor carrier/driver locations within company guidelines.
  • Maintain up-to-date carrier profile information.
  • Act as a backup for other dispatch positions when necessary.
  • Oversee and mentor other logistics coordinators or dispatchers.
  • Support the Manager or Director of Logistics Services with leadership tasks and reporting duties as required.
  • Negotiate rates with customers and potential clients.
  • Facilitate communication between carrier drivers/dispatch and customers regarding load details.
  • Schedule drivers/Carriers efficiently while ensuring on-time performances.
  • Address demurrage, detention, and additional costs in collaboration with customers and carriers.
  • Resolve driver/carrier issues to maintain strong relationships.
  • Focus on strategies for carrier/customer retention.
  • Assist with inside sales efforts to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure accuracy in maintaining Carrier profile information.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Availability for flexible work hours (50+ hours/week, Tuesday to Saturday).
  • High School diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
  • 3-6 years of experience in transportation and third-party dispatch, focusing on carrier development and routing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent coordination of high-volume phone tasks.
  • Competency in using Microsoft products such as Excel and email.
  • Accurate typing capabilities and data entry proficiency.
  • Prior experience in transportation is advantageous.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills for managing multiple tasks/projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
