Job Overview

As an Engineering Project Specialist at Hoyle Tanner, you will play a vital role in our Northeast Municipal Engineering Services Group. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing significantly to a team focused on enhancing drinking water systems, including treatment, storage, and distribution.
  • Preparing calculations, layouts, modeling, estimates, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers.
  • Gaining insights into drinking water quality challenges and hydraulic systems.
  • Familiarizing yourself with drinking water regulations.
  • Engaging actively in one or more drinking water associations.
  • Leading and mentoring junior engineers and CADD team members.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in plan production, specification writing, engineering analysis, and task management in a project engineering role, along with strong oral and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take a primary role in a multi-disciplinary team addressing technical challenges on complex projects.
  • Complete assignments accurately and punctually with minimal supervision from the Project Manager.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of project budgets, scopes of services, and schedules, providing updates and recommendations to maintain timelines and financial targets.
  • Understand the client's organization and expectations.
  • Share best practices to enhance team performance and efficiency.
  • Assist in developing person-hour estimates and budgets with guidance from senior staff.
  • Lead small teams on moderately complex projects.
  • Contribute to proposal development efforts.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to nurture the growth of entry-level engineers and peers.
  • Conduct site visits and participate in or lead meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Exhibit strong technical writing and presentation skills for deliverables and proposals.

Qualifications:

Qualified Candidates:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or Chemical Engineering (BSChemE).
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in NH or ME, or eligibility to take the PE exam within one year.
  • 4-9 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in two or more software tools: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Hydro-CAD, ArcView, MS Office.

Highly Qualified Candidates:

  • Master's degree in Engineering with coursework in drinking water treatment and/or water chemistry.
  • Experience with public drinking water quality and treatment projects.
  • Proficiency in distribution system hydraulic modeling.
  • Active involvement in drinking water association committees.
  • Additional PE licenses or NCEES record.
