Role Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a crucial role in patient care under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and healthcare providers. Responsibilities include communicating with patients, recording vital signs, maintaining electronic medical records (EMR), and administering immunizations. The CMA also aids in the procurement of medical supplies and fosters a collaborative team atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide patients from the waiting area to examination rooms, utilizing EMR for room assignments.
  • Document patient history and primary concerns in EMR.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance and conduct, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient intake, including medical history, chief complaints, and social history, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Measure and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist diabetic patients with foot inspections and weight measurements.
  • Engage with patients regarding dental needs and facilitate appointment scheduling.
  • Wear a wristwatch with a second hand to ensure accurate vital sign measurements.
  • Assess and document patient pain levels and vital signs in EMR.
  • Perform basic tests such as urinalysis and pregnancy tests, documenting findings and collaborating with providers as necessary.
  • Administer vaccines following established policies, ensuring proper documentation and patient education.
  • Maintain a daily log of refrigerator/freezer temperatures to ensure medication safety.
  • Conduct monthly cleaning of refrigeration units and maintain accurate cleaning logs.
  • Document immunization data in the NJIIS Registry and provide educational materials to patients regarding vaccine side effects.
  • Manage patient flow and assist in preparing examination rooms and patient records.
  • Support healthcare providers during examinations and procedures as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control policies while providing patient care.
  • Sanitize examination rooms and equipment after each patient visit.
  • Contact patients who miss appointments to assist with rescheduling.
  • Maintain logs for medical devices as required.
  • Process referrals and ensure completion of patient documentation.
  • Ensure patient privacy and comfort while providing care.
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers before administering care.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of patient care equipment.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies, placing orders as necessary.
  • Check supplies for expiration dates regularly.
  • Disinfect treatment rooms at the end of each shift.
  • Prepare patient charts for the following day, including necessary documentation for providers.
  • Perform venipuncture for blood work as needed, explaining procedures to patients.
  • Seek assistance for challenging venipuncture cases or abnormal findings.
  • Assist in the management and sterilization of medical equipment.
  • Coordinate the delivery and receipt of sterilized instruments.
  • Maintain inventory and stock levels for examination rooms.
  • Keep accurate records for inventory control and review incoming orders.
  • Participate in staff training and development programs.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Attend continuing education sessions and team meetings.
  • Assist in training new staff as directed.
  • Foster positive relationships and demonstrate a caring attitude towards patients.
  • Accept constructive feedback and make necessary adjustments.
  • Introduce oneself to patients and their families during appointments.
  • Report unusual occurrences and necessary information to the appropriate supervisors.
  • Complete incident reports as required.
  • Address any actions that negatively impact patient care.
  • Strive to provide optimal care and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Complete all mandatory training and attend required meetings.
  • Be flexible in scheduling and location assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program.
  • Current National Certification as a Medical Assistant is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 is necessary.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is important to meet organizational needs.
  • Reliable transportation for various assignments is required.
