Healthcare Access Coordinator I, II, Sr.

UTHealth Houston Department of Surgery - Interventional Gastroenterology Clinic is seeking a Healthcare Access Coordinator to enhance their operations.
The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication abilities, along with a solid understanding of referrals and insurance processes. Position Summary:
This role is essential for ensuring compliance with medical necessity, verifying patient eligibility, and processing payments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collects demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors, entering data into the system with high accuracy.
- May schedule patient appointments and ensure timely entry of required information.
- Explains necessary forms to patients or guarantors and secures required signatures.
- Ensures compliance with medical necessity by gathering necessary data and communicating effectively with patients or guarantors.
- Maintains the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liabilities and establishing payment arrangements.
- Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring all notifications and authorizations are completed promptly.
- Records payments in the system and generates appropriate receipts for patients.
- Communicates professionally with physicians, care management, and other departments, ensuring thorough documentation.
- Adheres to university policies and standards, managing time and resources effectively.
- Promotes professional growth by meeting educational requirements and supporting departmental goals.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and proficient typing skills.
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) year of experience in a medical office or hospital setting.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
Security Sensitive:
This position may involve security-sensitive responsibilities as defined by Texas Education Code.
Veteran Information:
Relevant military occupations may include but are not limited to: 68G, 70E, 0808, 4A0X1.
Residency Requirement:
Employees must reside and work in the State of Texas.
