UTHealth Houston Department of Surgery - Interventional Gastroenterology Clinic is seeking a Healthcare Access Coordinator to enhance their operations.

The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication abilities, along with a solid understanding of referrals and insurance processes. Position Summary:
This role is essential for ensuring compliance with medical necessity, verifying patient eligibility, and processing payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collects demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors, entering data into the system with high accuracy.
  2. May schedule patient appointments and ensure timely entry of required information.
  3. Explains necessary forms to patients or guarantors and secures required signatures.
  4. Ensures compliance with medical necessity by gathering necessary data and communicating effectively with patients or guarantors.
  5. Maintains the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liabilities and establishing payment arrangements.
  6. Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring all notifications and authorizations are completed promptly.
  7. Records payments in the system and generates appropriate receipts for patients.
  8. Communicates professionally with physicians, care management, and other departments, ensuring thorough documentation.
  9. Adheres to university policies and standards, managing time and resources effectively.
  10. Promotes professional growth by meeting educational requirements and supporting departmental goals.
  11. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and proficient typing skills.

Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:
One (1) year of experience in a medical office or hospital setting.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.

Security Sensitive:
This position may involve security-sensitive responsibilities as defined by Texas Education Code.

Veteran Information:
Relevant military occupations may include but are not limited to: 68G, 70E, 0808, 4A0X1.

Residency Requirement:
Employees must reside and work in the State of Texas.
