Job Summary

We are seeking an Assistant Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator to join our team at VCU Athletics. The successful candidate will provide academic support to student-athletes, develop study skills, and assist with academic goal setting. This role will also serve as an administrative assistant to the Office of Student-Athlete Support Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction on study skills, time management, note-taking, and test-taking strategies to student-athletes.
  • Assist with providing academic support to an assigned caseload of student-athletes through weekly meetings and monitor their academic progress.
  • Work with student-athletes on major choice and career planning using major maps and other resources.
  • Communicate with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of Student-Athlete Support Services regarding at-risk students.
  • Provide student-athletes with information and assistance in the use of academic accommodations.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with faculty, staff, and community resources.
  • Assist with career development opportunities for student-athletes.
  • Provide consistent and frequent communication with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of Student-Athlete Support Services.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Personal student-athlete collegiate experience.
  • Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
  • Multilingual skills.
  • Knowledge of academic advising in a culturally diverse university environment with student-athletes of varying academic levels.
