Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Academic Support Coordinator for Student-Athletes to join our team. As a key member of our Athletics department, you will play a vital role in guiding student-athletes to academic success and providing support through study skills development, academic goal setting, and utilizing academic resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction on study skills, time management, note-taking, test-taking strategies, and overall academic success to student-athletes.
  • Assist with providing academic support to an assigned caseload of student-athletes through weekly meetings and monitor their academic progress.
  • Work with student-athletes on major choice and career planning utilizing major maps and other resources.
  • Communicate with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of Student-Athlete Support Services regarding at-risk students.
  • Provide student-athletes with information and assistance in the use of academic accommodations.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the faculty, staff, and community resources.
  • Work with student-athletes on strategies to enhance their overall success.
  • Assist with and organize community outreach opportunities for student-athletes.
  • Assist with career development opportunities for student-athletes.
  • Provide consistent and frequent communication with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of Student-Athlete Support Services.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and reports.
  • Assist with beginning of the semester preparations.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of specialized programs and events for student-athletes.
  • Assist with supervision of the study hall lab for student-athletes and all other services within the area.
  • Help with the preparation and organization of various workshops and training sessions.
  • Be an active member of the DEI and Health Relationship & Violence Prevention Committee.
  • Assist with checking class attendance of student-athletes, particularly those considered at-risk.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed written documentation for each student-athlete during their course of stay at VCU as required by the NCAA and the University.
  • Work with the Compliance office and Records and Registration to monitor and ensure the eligibility of the student-athletes.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Be available for assignments and/or event participation that will require weekend and/or evening hours.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Personal student-athlete collegiate experience.
  • Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do as a staff member at VCU.
