Opportunity Overview

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Environmental Planning Specialist to enhance our team. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with exceptional communication skills, capable of collaborating with colleagues across various locations and managing diverse projects effectively. Strong client interaction skills and a proactive approach to business development are essential.

This full-time position will report to one of SWCA's Team Leads and offers flexible work arrangements, including office-based, hybrid, or remote options for those within the region.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will oversee and conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments, engage in public and agency outreach, and ensure quality assurance throughout the preparation of Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). More senior roles will involve greater responsibility for business development and leading complex, multidisciplinary planning initiatives.

Specific duties include:

  • Directing the preparation of EAs and EISs for a range of projects, including revisions of federal resource management plans and land use plans.
  • Supporting growth objectives across various business lines, including land use planning, energy generation, and water resource management.
  • Providing technical guidance for NEPA documentation and processes.
  • Exhibiting strong leadership and professionalism at the project, team, and office levels.
  • Offering expertise on intricate NEPA projects to SWCA project managers.
  • Contributing to business development efforts and proposal submissions.
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level staff in NEPA analysis and documentation.

Qualifications for Success

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in NEPA project management, environmental analysis, and agency collaboration. We are looking for the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in NEPA document preparation and environmental consulting.
  • Proven management experience on complex, multidisciplinary projects, including leading client and agency meetings and directing project teams.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and budget management abilities.
  • A thorough understanding of federal and state environmental regulations, including NEPA and related acts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
  • At least ten years of experience in NEPA document preparation and environmental consulting.
  • Recognized expertise as a NEPA project manager capable of guiding EIS processes from planning through decision-making.
  • Experience in business development with federal agencies and other stakeholders.
