This is a full-time position, reporting to one of SWCA's Team Leads.

Key Responsibilities


You will oversee and conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments, engage in public and agency outreach, and ensure quality assurance and leadership during the preparation of Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).

More senior roles will involve greater responsibility for business development and leading complex, multidisciplinary planning initiatives, projects, and teams.


Specific Duties Include:


Directing the preparation of EAs and EISs for a wide range of projects, including updates to federal resource management plans and land use plans, rights-of-way approvals, policy amendments, and more.

Support the growth objectives of business lines that may encompass land use planning, energy generation, transmission, water resources, mining, and additional sectors.

Provide technical oversight and guidance for key components of NEPA documentation and processes.

Exhibit exemplary leadership and professionalism while guiding project teams and office operations.
Offer expertise to project managers on intricate NEPA projects.
Contribute to business development efforts and proposal submissions.
Mentor early and mid-career staff in developing their skills in NEPA analysis and documentation.
Typically, senior-level professionals have primary responsibility for projects, processes, technologies, client relationships, or teams.

At the Senior Role Level, employees and their supervisors identify a Career Focus Area, and the employee's responsibilities and development activities reflect this focus.

Qualifications for Success

We are looking for a team member with proven experience in NEPA project management, environmental analysis, and agency collaboration.

Desired Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related scientific field.
A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in NEPA document preparation and environmental consulting.

Experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects; leading meetings with clients and agencies; directing project teams, including subcontractors; overseeing the preparation of technical studies and NEPA documents; and adhering to project budgets and timelines.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; meticulous attention to detail; and effective organization, scheduling, and budget management abilities.

A comprehensive understanding of federal and state environmental regulations, including NEPA, the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).


Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
A minimum of ten (10) years of NEPA document preparation and environmental consulting experience.

Ability to be recognized by clients and agencies as a NEPA project manager capable of leading an EIS from pre-NEPA planning through to the record of decision.

Experience in business development with federal agencies, resource management plans, water, mining, oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors seeking permits or leases from federal agencies.
