We are looking to recruit a full-time Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with our executive leadership to enhance, broaden, and direct the firm's public affairs and communications service offerings, ensuring high-quality and responsive service delivery to our clientele. This role is pivotal in expanding our business in public affairs, communications, media relations, reputation management, and public relations. As a key member of our senior leadership team, this position will enhance our capacity to devise solutions, cultivate partnerships, bridge divides, and create opportunities for businesses, advocacy groups, government entities, and nonprofits seeking our expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Business Development

  • Act as the primary client liaison for a diverse portfolio of public affairs and communications projects, addressing various business and policy challenges.
  • Lead and nurture a team dedicated to public affairs and communications services, providing overarching leadership to a multi-disciplinary group of professionals.
  • Develop effective marketing strategies to enhance the firm's reputation for delivering exceptional public affairs and communications services, resulting in measurable client base growth.
  • Collaborate to create and lead innovative offerings and strategic initiatives within Ohio River South's public affairs and communications sectors.
  • Identify, define, and propose opportunities to broaden our service offerings to both new and existing clients, focusing on public affairs strategies and objectives.
  • Establish new partnerships and recruit allies to enhance our capabilities and standing in public affairs and communications across the southeastern United States.
  • Contribute as an engaged and thoughtful member of the firm's senior leadership team, providing insights, proactive recommendations, and guidance for the firm's growth.
  • Serve as the chief marketing officer for ORS, promoting the firm, enhancing the brand, and elevating our reputation.

Client Services

  • Proactively identify client challenges and opportunities, offering solutions to address them effectively.
  • Strengthen and expand relationships with stakeholders and decision-makers to unlock new opportunities for the firm.
  • Design, implement, and monitor solutions tailored to clients' expressed needs, while identifying additional avenues to support their interests.
  • Oversee client teams and allocate the firm's resources efficiently to achieve client objectives and pursue new opportunities.
  • Maintain an active presence in relevant partner organizations and associations to enhance our ability to meet client goals and strengthen our practice.
  • Build and leverage a broad network of relationships across pertinent issue areas and sectors for the benefit of current and future clients.
  • Deliver clear and insightful analyses of decisions, policies, and opportunities to support client initiatives and public benefit.
  • Represent the firm at significant meetings and public events.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be an established, charismatic mid-career professional with a strong network and a proven track record in public affairs and communications.

Required experience includes:

  • 8-10 years in fields such as communications, public/media relations, journalism, or roles within communications or public affairs agencies.
  • Experience in public affairs roles within the public or private sector, or in public-facing nonprofits, think tanks, or trade associations.
  • Proven success in building or leading a public affairs and communications practice.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and secure new business proposals.
  • Strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adeptness in understanding and articulating complex issues.
  • Experience in team leadership, including managing performance, setting priorities, and guiding professional development.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the southeastern United States will significantly enhance the candidate's profile.
