Field Technician - Construction Materials Testing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of tests on construction materials such as asphalt, soil, and concrete using specialized testing equipment
  • Conduct field compaction tests, supervise paving activities, and inspect batch production facilities
  • Analyze construction documents to ascertain project specifications and requirements
  • Ensure meticulous completion of all required documentation, including daily logs, test results, and timesheets
  • Document and communicate test outcomes through mathematical calculations and graphical representations
  • Engage in both verbal and written communication with engineers, staff, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Maintain, calibrate, and adjust testing equipment as necessary
  • Follow safety protocols at construction sites to ensure a secure working environment

Qualifications for Success:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required
  • No prior experience is necessary; candidates with limited experience are encouraged to apply as training will be provided
  • Practical experience in field or laboratory construction materials testing is preferred
  • Engineering background is advantageous
  • Desirable certifications include ACI Concrete Grade I, Nuclear Gauge Safety, OSHA 10, NICET Level II or higher in Concrete, Soils, or Asphalt, ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector
  • Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are essential
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook) is required
  • Seeking punctual, reliable, and detail-oriented individuals
  • Ability to understand and interpret work plans is necessary
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime is expected
  • A valid Driver's License and a reliable driving record are mandatory

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, move, push, and pull weights ranging from 30 to 50 pounds frequently, with occasional lifting of over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Capacity to receive detailed auditory information and distinguish sounds
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting may be required
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Occasional climbing may be necessary
