Position Overview

This role is designated for a Law Enforcement Officer within the Veterans Health Administration.

The Law Enforcement Officer will undertake a comprehensive range of law enforcement responsibilities, adhering to established protocols and regulations pertaining to law enforcement, security operations, patrol assignments, control desk responsibilities, collaboration with judicial entities, and crime prevention initiatives within the designated jurisdiction.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Open to current employees of the agency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Safeguards the civil liberties of all individuals on property managed by the Veterans Health Administration;
  • Detects, prevents, and investigates criminal activities;
  • Conducts patrols in assigned sectors on foot or via vehicle;
  • Subdues individuals causing disturbances or posing threats to themselves or others;
  • Adheres to protocols regarding the search and seizure of evidence and illegal items;
  • Secures search and arrest warrants;
  • Apprehends lawbreakers;
  • Administers basic first aid and CPR until emergency medical personnel arrive;
  • Documents activities and incidents occurring during shifts;
  • Manages traffic control;
  • Assists individuals in emergency situations;
  • Performs additional related duties as required.
Drug Testing Requirement: Candidates selected for this position may be required to undergo drug testing prior to appointment.

Work Schedule: Flexible schedule with potential for weekend and irregular hours based on operational needs.

Conditions of Employment

  • Completion of an online onboarding process is required.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Veterans Health Administration personnel.
  • Compliance with the COVID-19 vaccination program is required for all Veterans Health Administration personnel.
  • FIREARM QUALIFICATION: Officers must carry agency-approved firearms while on duty and maintain qualification with these firearms.
  • DRIVER'S LICENSE: A valid state-issued driver's license is required.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all specified requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements as outlined.
  • NOTE: Submission of relevant personnel action documentation is required.
Interchange Agreement: Applicants must meet eligibility criteria under the VA Interchange Agreement.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation is required.

Physical Requirements: The role necessitates considerable physical exertion, including running and carrying heavy items.

Medical Requirements: Applicants must meet specific medical standards to perform essential functions without risk to themselves or others.

Education: No educational substitution is permitted at this grade level.
