Painter (Part Time) - Williamsburg Landing

Job Summary:
The Painter is a key member of the Williamsburg Landing team, responsible for preparing surfaces for paint, finishes, and wall coverings, as well as making minor repairs to walls and trim throughout our community. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work safely at heights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate time and materials for turnovers/renovations and for occupied residences, as well as for work done to the exterior of buildings or to common areas and offices.
- Prepare surfaces properly for the type of paint, stain, or wallpaper to be used, and select the proper paint for each job based on the surface and finish characteristics.
- Maintain a clean and organized work site, and ensure complete clean-up of the work area at the end of each workday.
- Select the proper tools and equipment for each job, and maintain an appropriate inventory of tools, materials, and equipment on the paint truck.
- Polish buildings regularly, identify improperly operating equipment or components, and inform managers as appropriate.
- Ensure that tasks are completed, and that residents know the status of repairs to their residences.
- Complete work order forms, and maintain contact with the Facilities Management office and supervisor for reassignment to jobs throughout the workday.
- Respond to emergency situations as necessary, and fulfill assigned roles in fire drills and for snow removal.
- Evaluate work processes and methods, and submit recommendations for continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain positive interaction with residents, guests, and other Williamsburg Landing employees.
- Assume on-call responsibility as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience in residential and commercial carpentry and painting.
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of pertinent building codes and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used for staining, painting, and wallpapering.
- Knowledge of types of paint and finishes and all preparations.
- Demonstrated ability in taping, spackling, applying joint compound, and installing wall coverings in addition to applying paint or finishes by brush, roller, or spray.
- Ability to maintain proper inventories of paints, painting supplies, and equipment with little or no supervision.
- Ability to work safely on ladders and scaffolds up to three stories.
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior adults experiencing differing levels of physical and cognitive challenges.
- Ability to use hand-held communication equipment effectively and responsibly.
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sustain hard work including, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, crawling, and other physical labor for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work overhead from ladders for sustained periods of time.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Ability to regularly and safely lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to take calls and work odd hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
