Job Overview

Primary Function:

The primary responsibility of the Banquet Captain is to lead and manage the banquet service team in the preparation, execution, and dismantling of designated events for members and guests, in accordance with the banquet event orders and under the guidance of the Food & Beverage and Banquet Management teams. This role serves as the key point of contact between clients and the Food and Beverage service personnel for the assigned functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee banquet servers and bartenders to ensure all tasks are completed according to the specific requirements of each event.
  • Participate in weekly event planning meetings as necessary.
  • Monitor the delivery and usage of linens for the events assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Chef to ensure proper set-up and execution of food buffets.
  • Supervise and guarantee that all functions are set up in accordance with the Banquet Event Orders, ensuring quality and timing.
  • Ensure that all events are ready for service at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Coordinate with clients or event hosts to confirm attendance and address any special setup requirements or modifications. Communicate any changes in attendance to relevant staff members.
  • Track inventory levels of banquet supplies and equipment, communicating needs to the Food & Beverage Director or Banquet Manager.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of equipment is available for all events by coordinating with the Food & Beverage Director and/or Banquet Manager.
  • Prepare accurate billing and gratuity records promptly for all events and submit them to the Banquet Manager immediately after each event.
  • Actively participate in the service of all assigned events.
  • Maintain high standards of uniform appearance and professionalism.

Physical and Operational Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to effectively teach and manage personnel while communicating positively and professionally with supervisors, guests, and colleagues.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to perform all banquet service functions competently.
  • Ability to accurately complete all financial documentation and processes related to catered events.
  • Possession of a current Maricopa County Food Handler's Card.
  • Possession of a current Arizona Title 4 alcohol education certificate.
