As a Clinical Nutrition Specialist, your role will involve providing tailored and specialized nutritional therapy. You will also be responsible for educating patients and collaborating with various departments to enhance the nutritional care experience for patients.


Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Delivering counseling and educational services to patients with medical conditions that necessitate nutritional management. Developing nutritional care strategies, communication protocols, and follow-up systems. Documenting and finalizing reports for ongoing productivity assessment and laboratory notes. Creating and updating educational resources for patients undergoing medical therapy. Assessing patients for indications of nutritional deficiencies.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related discipline. A valid dietetics license in the state of practice (LD) and active certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD). Strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment while working independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care utilizing medical nutrition therapy for a designated patient demographic.
  • Offer counseling and educational services to patients with medical conditions requiring nutritional oversight.
  • Implement nutritional care plans, communicate strategies, establish follow-up systems, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Adjust diet orders as necessary; conduct nutrient intake evaluations; assess patients for signs of nutritional deficiencies; review laboratory and clinical progress notes; inform healthcare providers of patients' nutritional status and necessary dietary modifications; develop care plans, documentation, and reassessments.
  • Coordinate the efforts of dietetic technicians assigned to the area.
  • Contribute to Cleveland Clinic-sponsored educational initiatives for healthcare professionals, students, and the public.
  • Participate in program development aimed at marketing and expanding departmental services and revenue.
  • Promote services to potential and existing referral sources; develop and implement services based on client needs.
  • Actively engage in departmental initiatives, including committees and projects.
  • Support the dietetic internship program as a supervised practice rotation preceptor and instructor.
  • Complete reports for ongoing productivity tracking.
  • Engage in professional development activities; attend and contribute to conferences and seminars on nutrition and related subjects.
  • Represent Cleveland Clinic on nutrition-related matters.
  • Conduct clinical research and utilize clinical software applications to enhance care.
  • Adhere to all regulatory standards, including CMS, JCAHO, ADA, and departmental policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related field.

Certification Requirements:
  • Maintain a current license to practice dietetics in the state (LD) and active certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD).

Work Complexity:
  • Requires critical thinking abilities, sound judgment, and the capacity to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to function in a high-pressure environment and take appropriate actions.

Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Dietitian in clinical nutrition.
  • Successful completion of a Dietetic Internship Program may substitute for the experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to navigate extensively to provide services to a large patient population and manual dexterity sufficient for computer entry.
  • Must possess the physical capability to measure and weigh patients.

Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Adhere to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
